Language Arts (Look for LA syllabi under this button.)
- The Language arts program at Kingfisher is based on a belief in the power of learning using multi-intelligences philosophy. We experience literature through many mediums—reading, viewing, drama, art, music, etc. For example, the lower middle school (5th-6th) reads “Romeo and Juliet.” We read the play aloud, view the classic Zephirelli film, deliver a monologue, and produce an art project related to the play. We always take advantage of plays being performed in Atlanta. The upper middle school, during Black History Month, reads Things Fall Apart, Bikko, and Malcolm X. We learn about African customs and pre-white culture. We view the films Cry Freedom and Malcolm X and explore Muslim culture. Our program is very fluid and takes into consideration the class population and what is being offered by the arts community in Atlanta. Most importantly, we have a desire to instill a love of literature in our students that will last for a lifetime.
