3.                  Learn how literature and art were important aspects of Anglo-Saxon life
4.                  Read the poetry and Beowulf out loud.
5.                  Compare and contrast the film Beowulf and Grendel with the epic Beowulf.
6.                  Enact a scene from Beowulf dramatically.
 
Materials:
1.                  Beowulf trans. By Burton Raffel.
2.                  The Anglo-Saxon poems The Wife’s Lament, The Wanderer, and The Seafarer.
3.                  Several Anglo-Saxon Riddles.
4.                  The film Beowulf and Grendel.
 
Projects:
1.                  A poster-size map of the geography in Beowulf
2.                  A character map
3.                  create a book cover for Beowulf
4.                  a drawing of a scene from any of the poems
5.                  a depiction of Hrunting (the magic sword)
6.                  a  rendition of Grendel’s arm
7.                  a clay model of Grendel or the dragon
