Welcome

Kingfisher is a human-scale school that uses small class sizes and a family-friendly philosophy to encourage students to reach for their dreams. We ask kids to become aware of their talents and strengths and to use those strengths to bolster the areas that need work. We like kids to explore and we extoll the virtues of curiosity. Our mission is summed up in the acronym P.E.A.C.E.
February
February has so many kid-friendly holidays--Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, President's Day, the 100th Day of School, Mardi Gras, etc. etc. Kingfisher likes to do something for every one of these holidays, so be prepared for lots of unique celebrations.  Valentine's Day will hold something different for each class--the olders are planning a movie outing and the littles will be distributing cards galore (some of the cards will be sticky with icing). We expect this to  be a fun month, but also a winter-y one. Several years in a row, the only snowy time in Atlanta has been in February. So, we have plans for that, as well. E-mail blasts will go out if school has to close or open later in the day due to road conditions. Hopefully, February will be cold enough to wipe out the gnats and mosquitos for the summer, but warm enough that we can start our spring plantings in the raised beds outside. The chickens are finally laying eggs and we'll be creating mosaics out of shells, and eating omelets, and trying to train the chickens to lay where it will be easy to collect the eggs, etc. It really feels like magic to send a pair of children out to collect eggs in the morning--and we all feel surprised by the regularity of the gifts the chickens provide!  All of February, we'll be touring new families for next year and interviewing a new teacher to work with the oldest class for next year, as well. Kingfisher is abuzz with change.
