Travel Poster Activity
Stingrays Social Studies
Mr. Johnson
Spring, 2008
Activity Description:
Using their research, students will create a poster to promote travel to the Canadian province or territory that they have selected. Posters must combine both written content and visual images. Images must include something that is student-generated (meaning of their own creation and not copied/printed), though posters can also incorporate other images (photographs, pictures, maps, etc.) that the students find during the research process. They can use any art materials they wish to create the student-generated image (paints, colored pencils, etc.). Written content must include information about the history, geography, and culture of the province or territory, but it should be presented in such a way that it would encourage tourists to visit! Students will have class time and materials to work on this activity. It is due on May 19. Final posters should be clean of errors, mistakes, language problems, or other flaws (in other words, final drafts).
Note to the students: Below are three examples of classic travel posters. While you'll be including more words/written content on your posters, the images show how you can relate the images to the culture/history/geography of a place.
